Recently I received an e-mail from an organization that's collecting backpacks and school supplies for students whose parents cannot afford to get them the supplies they need.
I think it is such a great idea (why hadn't I thought of that before?

This (1) black sling backpack (replete with cell phone compartment) will contain lined/ruled paper, notebooks, calculator, crayons, scissors, colored pencils, markers, highlighters, glue, pens, pencils, sharpener and ruler.

Working first hand with the public in fuel assistance, I see people struggling to get by every day. The current economy and job losses have kept many people from buying even the most essential items for their families. Every year our agency (well our dept. actually) adopts a needy family and helps them out with essentials. Although it is done around the holidays, we try to help out all year with what is needed if a client comes to see us and has nothing. This would be great to have on hand to keep in the office in case a client came in and was in need of school supplies for their child. What a great idea and very nice giveaway!
